Central Baptist Church originally began with 53 members in 1887 with the first permanent
structure located at 800 McCallie Avenue. The church prospered for many years, even
as the neighborhood shifted from residential to commercial. The church body purposed
to reach the people of the North Brainerd community and thus relocated to 901 Woodmore
Lane. The church impacted the people of the community for many years and continued
to share the love of Christ. Central Baptist Church of Woodmore, once again, purposed
to do whatever it takes to reach people for Jesus, and relocated to the Ooltewah
area in 2001. The church reorganized and restructured while meeting at Hunter Middle
School until a more permanent location could be secured. In God’s perfect timing,
the new ChristWay Community Church began meeting at 6201 Mountain View Road in what
was once known as the “Arnold Palmer Golf Company.” The facility boasts 97,000 square
feet, some of which has been renovated and some of which is awaiting future expansion.
The church body, however recognizes that the building is not the “church” but that
the group of people who worship there are the “church”. With this in mind, the church
seeks to do things differently, to think outside of the box, and to develop people
into faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
